Manufacturing with Purpose: A History of ArcWorks

Today, ArcWorks stands as a leader in contract manufacturing, proudly employing people with and without disabilities in a truly integrated workforce. Serving both national and international customers, ArcWorks has built a reputation for quality, reliability, and partnership. Always growing and evolving, the organization continues to expand its capabilities and customer base — all while staying grounded in the strong history and legacy that have defined it for more than six decades.

Grounded in Opportunity

Founded in 1963, ArcWorks was created to provide people supported by The Arc of Monroe with opportunities to build skills, earn a paycheck, and make meaningful contributions to their community. What began as a small workshop has grown into a respected leader in manufacturing and packaging, while proudly maintaining an integrated workforce.

Over the decades, ArcWorks has operated in five different locations, employed more than 300 people, and partnered with businesses across Rochester and around the globe.

Growing Through the Years

ArcWorks began production in a workshop on East Ridge Road before relocating several times in pursuit of growth and efficiency. Between 1997 and 2007, operations were divided across Mustard Street, Clinton Street, and the Al Sigl Complex. While this expansion reflected success, running three sites simultaneously often meant processes varied by location.

Consolidating into one facility became a strategic priority — and relocating to Lyell Avenue marked a turning point. Bringing all operations under one roof significantly improved consistency, communication, and overall efficiency.

Commitment to Quality

After moving to Lyell Avenue, ArcWorks pursued ISO certification, ensuring its products and services meet internationally recognized standards for quality, safety, and efficiency. Since earning ISO 9001:2015 certification, ArcWorks has achieved perfect scores on every recertification audit — a testament to its dedication to precision, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Evolving to Meet Community Needs

In 2017, ArcWorks transitioned to a community pre-vocational service model focused on career exploration and skill development. This shift allows people supported by The Arc of Monroe to gain hands-on experience while preparing for competitive employment in industries such as manufacturing, food service, and hospitality.

Today, ArcWorks is not just a workplace — it is a launchpad, helping people build confidence and transition into meaningful careers within their communities.

Looking Ahead

While maintaining an integrated workforce has always been at the heart of ArcWorks’ mission, customer satisfaction continues to drive its growth. Under new leadership and supported by a strong, dedicated team, ArcWorks has expanded its customer base, strengthened service excellence, and developed bold plans for the future.
